Moynihan Station Phase 2

Moynihan Station Phase 2 converted the historic James A. Farley Post Office into the Moynihan Train Hall, expanding Penn Station with a modern, light-filled transportation hub. The project required extensive structural modifications within an active rail environment and a landmark building. UrbanTech supported construction with specialized structural and temporary works engineering to facilitate demolition, load transfers, and new framing installation while maintaining overall stability.

  • Designed temporary shoring systems to support existing framing during phased demolition and reconstruction

  • Developed column jacking and load transfer procedures, including hydraulic jacking sequences and permanent support design

  • Performed global and local stability analyses of existing columns, girders, and framing during construction

  • Designed temporary transfer beams and alternate structural connections to accommodate construction sequencing

  • Provided erection and demolition sequencing support for new girders and structural framing

  • Delivered engineering support for specialty structures and attachments, including walkways, handrails, gates, light supports, and equipment platforms

  • Supported construction in an active rail environment, coordinating temporary works with ongoing operations
